What a crazy first day of home school! But not for the reasons you think.

Record rainfall in Arizona, most rain EVER! |
So last night I tried to get everyone to bed at a decent time so when 8AM rolled around it wouldn't be quite the shock. Well the aftermath of a hurricane/typhoon came up thru Arizona and literally dumped the whole ocean on the city of Phoenix. The thunder woke the house up between 3:15 and 3:45 in the morning and kept us up for a bit and then Jonathan got a work phone call at 5:30 AM. So needless to say, when the alarm went at 8AM, I was less than thrilled. Connor was also not really excited.

Ugh, morning. |
Well I did manage to stay on time this morning, had the kids up by 8:30 and eating breakfast and dressed by 9. We did morning circle and I think this was Connor's favorite thing. What was great was that we actually had weather this morning so that was cool too. We checked the Weather Channel on the iPad and then went outside to see what was happening. We then came inside and Connor and Emma needed to find the icon that matched the Weather Channel's.
 |
It took Connor a bit but he eventually found it. |
 |
We needed to find the thunder cloud with rain and lightning. |
We also started the day (as we will with every day) with the Pledge of Allegiance. Connor I think really enjoyed this as well. We'll work on where the heart is next time :)
After morning circle we made our way over to the counter and we had Emma color while Connor did some color/item matching and cutting. He's never really done either of these before (the scissors a few times) and so he was pretty much done after 15 minutes. I had a sheet for him to color but he wasn't that interested in it either. So at 9:30 we were pretty much done with activities lol.

Using scissors. |
So at this point, I felt a little defeated as I was hoping this part of the morning would go till at least 10. But I just went ahead and let the two of them play. Usually I would let them play with iPads or turn a movie on, But I've decided that iPads and movies will be for only after nap time. So they two of them played with blocks, in their kitchen and made a huge mess :)
10:30 rolled around and it was time to get them ready for their Monday activity which was tumbling at the DVCC. I wasn't sure what to expect as I've never been here before, in this class before, and wasn't sure if I should take my truck out or rent a boat. I decided to go with the truck :)
The tumbling class was about 45 minutes and had about 10 other kids in there with us. I think there was only one other brave soul who decided to bring both their children (I'm always that mom with both kids in tow at events like this ha ha!) The kids did some running, jumping, crawling, stretching and so many other fun things. I always think when I sign up for these things "only 45 minutes?" But then I find myself around the half hour mark, wishing it was time to leave :) But the kids had a great time and we have this every Monday for the next 4 weeks. This was a class definitely more for Connor but Emma still did some of the stuff and had a great time.

Tunnel time! |
Over all it got the kids out of the house for an hour and they got to "get their sillies' out. They both seemed to like so we'll see how this goes over the next 4 weeks and we'll decide then if we'll do this or choose another class.
We came home soon after and had lunch and quiet times. That was pretty much the end of our day. I was exhausted and even took a little nap myself. When the kids got up they were able to do what ever they wanted at that point, as I cleaned up the house and got ready to make dinner for when the boys come home.
I will say that the morning didn't go 100% as planned, I had hoped that he would have done more of the scissors and cutting activity but I know this is only the first day and we are still getting into a routine. As they were playing with their iPads and I was cleaning up, I put the crayons, scissors and paper on the table in case he wanted to play with it some more. I was pleasantly surprised.

Look at him cut!! First time cutting along the lines of (and he repeated this) a circle, hexagon and rectangle. |
Over all I would say this day was a total win. It went great being that it was a first day for all of us. And for those of you who want to know "when is his reading/story time?" Well the kids read with daddy every night (that's where they are right now) And they have story time at the library too. But every night, they get special one on one time with daddy and read stories. This is one tired mama.
Tomorrow, we go to our first MOPS meeting. This should be interesting. Connor will be fine, but I'd be lying if I didn't say I was a bit worried about Em. She hasn't ever really been in a "preschool" environment before and I've never left her somewhere she didn't know anyone. I'm sure she'll be fine as her and Connor will be in the same room but I will still check on her. More tomorrow!!
